Cricket Formats and Tournaments — What happens in each
T20, ODI, and Test — three formats, three different betting approaches
Cricket has three main formats — T20, ODI, and Test. Each has its own pace and character, so the betting markets differ as well.
T20: The fastest format. In a 20-over game, the result can swing on just one or two wickets or a big six. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL (Indian Premier League) are both played in this format and are the two tournaments most talked about among Bangladeshi fans. Bangladesh Tigers' matches in the T20 World Cup also get special attention. From a betting perspective, live odds move fastest in T20.
ODI: In a fifty-over one-day match there is an innings break and more opportunity to read the situation. A large part of ICC tournaments are played in ODI format. Betting conditions change considerably mid-match here, especially after the first innings ends.
Test: In this five-day format, betting requires a patient approach. Wickets, pitch conditions, and weather are the three factors that influence Test odds the most.
Compared to football or other sports, cricket's betting markets are far more varied. In a single cricket match, alongside the match winner, there are hundreds of separate markets open — number of wickets, run totals, partnerships, and more. Football focuses mainly on goals; kabaddi and other sports have relatively fewer markets.
Popular Betting Markets — What each one involves
There are many betting options in cricket. Below are seven familiar markets with a simple example for each.
| Market | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Match Winner | Choosing which team will win | Bet placed on Team A to win — bet succeeds if Team A wins |
| Toss Winner | Which team will win the toss | Bet on Team B to win the toss — wins if they win the toss |
| Top Batsman | Which batsman will score the most runs | Bet wins if a specific batsman from Team A scores the highest |
| Over/Under Runs | Whether runs in an innings will be above or below a set number | Team B will score over 180 runs in 35 overs — over bet |
| First Wicket | Within how many runs the first wicket will fall | Team A's first wicket will fall before 30 runs — this bet |
| Multi Bet | Combining multiple markets into a single bet | Three results from three matches together — all must be correct to win |
| Handicap | Creating a market by giving the weaker team an advantage | If Team B gets a 20-run handicap, the actual margin may change the outcome |
In a multi bet, combining multiple markets multiplies the odds together — but if one market loses, the entire bet loses. This market is covered in more detail in the odds section below.
Three odds formats — the same price written differently
How to read odds — three formats
A cricket betting site may show odds in three different formats. The numbers look different but they all represent the same price.
Example 1 — The same price in three formats (Team A to win, stake ৳200):
Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150
If the bet wins, you get back ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 original stake). If it loses, ৳200 is gone.
Decimal odds are the simplest — multiply your stake by the odds to get your total return. Fractional odds show only the profit ratio. In American format, "+" means profit on a ৳100 bet, and "−" means how much you need to stake to win that amount.
Example 2 — Favourite's price (Team B to win, stake ৳200):
Decimal 1.80 = Fractional 4/5 = American −125
If it wins, total return is ৳360 (৳160 profit). American −125 means you need to stake ৳125 to win ৳100.
In a multi bet with three markets combined, the odds are multiplied together — for example 1.40 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 4.79 (approximately), so a ৳100 stake returns ৳479 if all are correct. But if even one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.
Live In-Play — Betting during the match
Live betting is the option to place bets while a match is in progress. As you watch the match on TV or a stream, the odds at tk bate keep updating.
In cricket, live odds change after every ball. In particular —
- When a wicket falls: If a strong batsman is dismissed, that team's run total odds drop — meaning the other team's odds of winning increase.
- After a big over: When an over goes for 20–25 runs, the over/under market line moves up quickly.
- After the powerplay: Once the first 6 overs are done, the direction of the match becomes clearer and many new markets open.
- In the death overs: The last 4–5 overs are the most volatile — odds change minute by minute.
Before placing a live bet, check the match updates on screen and make your own decision. It is better not to rush with fast-moving odds. Responsible gaming explains how to enjoy betting while staying within your limits.
Cricket Live Markets
New markets after every over — over runs, wicket fall, and partnership markets.
Fast Odds Updates
In live play, odds change ball by ball — staying up to date matters.
Betting on Football and Other Sports
Football Betting
In football, match winner, handicap, and goal over/under markets are the most popular. There are fewer markets than in cricket, but Premier League or World Cup fixtures give you plenty of matches to choose from.
Other Sports
Betting markets are also available for tennis, badminton, and kabaddi. These sports generally offer match winner and set/game markets; detailed markets like those in cricket are comparatively limited.
Casino and Card Games
Alongside sports betting, tk bate also has card games such as Baccarat betting and Teen Patti Joker. Their rules and betting strategies are different from sports.
Useful Tips for Cricket Betting
- Understand the format before betting: Winning the toss matters more in T20; pitch type matters more in Test — choose your market according to the format.
- Focus on one market: Getting to know one or two markets well is better than placing bets across five or six markets at once.
- Set a budget: Decide in advance how much you will bet each session and stay within that limit — betting is entertainment, not a way to earn income.
- Weather and pitch report: Knowing the chance of rain or the pitch report helps you make sense of over/under markets.
- Be careful with multi bets: Adding many matches together increases the potential return, but one wrong result means everything is lost.
- Live betting: Place bets while watching the match — but do not rush into a large bet to recover after a loss.
- Compare odds: Looking at odds across different markets for a match makes it easier to decide.
- Know the rules before you play: Reading the terms and conditions will keep you clear on any restrictions related to a market.

How Betting Exchange Works
Exchange betting is different from regular bookmaker betting. Here you can back a team to win (BACK), or you can also lay a team to lose (LAY).
Betting Exchange Example (Decimal Odds 2.00):
BACK Team A, Stake ৳500: If Team A wins, you profit ৳500 (before commission); if they don't win, you lose ৳500.
LAY Team A (assuming backer's stake ৳500): Your liability is ৳500. If Team A doesn't win, you profit ৳500 (before commission); if Team A wins, you pay ৳500.
Understanding liability in the exchange is important — before placing a LAY bet, know how much you may have to pay out. Commission is usually charged on the exchange.
